  2.         AttrMenu - A free Shell Extension from MainSoft

  5. You may have noticed that the Explorer program in Microsoft Windows 95
  6. (tm) doesn't display the folder's files attributes. You must open
  7. the "properties" page to access, display and possibly change these
  8. attributes.
  9.  
  10. AttrMenu is a shell extension for Windows 95 allowing to directly access
  11. a file's attributes from its context menu (opened when right clicking on
  12. the filename with the right mouse button). Four commands are added to the
  13. context menu of any file:
  14.  
  15.     Toggle Archive Attribute
  16.     Toggle Read-only Attribute
  17.     Toggle Hidden Attribute
  18.     Toggle System Attribute
  19.  
  20. These commands can be accessed from the "Attributes" popup menu appearing in
  21. the file's context menu.
  22.  
  23. When the corresponding attribute is set, the corresponding menu item is
  24. checked. To change the state of an attribute merely select the command
  25. relative to that attribute.

  27. This extension is not a definitive solution to the problem explained
  28. above. However, until we find a more elegant one, AttrMenu will do the
  29. job. At least you'll be able to quickly display the state of a single
  30. file's attributes.

  32. We first developed AttrMenu using the MFC. While not bringing significant
  33. advantages, this solution produced a huge 140 KB Dll. So we switched back
  34. to a SDK development and the Dll was reduced to a more acceptable size of
  35. 26 KB.

  38. HOW TO INSTALL
  39. --------------

  41. Installation of this extension is easy. First, copy ATTRMENU.DLL and
  42. ATTRMENU.INF to any directory. Open the Explorer and right-click on the
  43. Setup Information file (ATTRMENU.INF). Choose the INSTALL command. When
  44. you're done installing , you can delete the original files. They have
  45. been copied to your SYSTEM\SHELLEXT directory. However, you should make a
  46. BACKUP in case you uninstall the extension and want to re-install it
  47. later. The files will be deleted when uninstalling.

  50. HOW TO UNINSTALL
  51. ----------------

  53. To Uninstall, right-click on ATTRMENU.INF and select the UNINSTALL command.
  54. (NOTE: Install is not LFN-aware; it will not work if the files are copied
  55. to a local directory with an LFN.)

  57. Preferably, open the Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. In the
  58. Install/Uninstall page, select Attributes Context Menu and click on
  59. Add/Remove.

  64. This software is freeware. You can copy it, give it to friends, upload it
  65. to any server. It is prohibited to charge any fee for this software.
